No Letter This Week

Will wrote to say that he was too busy to write a group email.  Guess it's great that he's so busy!

The Wedding

Image
Super short email but long story short. The drunk brother told us he wanted to get married to his girlfriend ASAP and so we told him that our bishop could do it for free. So I got to witness a civil marriage this week that was pretty cool. I also got a call while on exchange from the Stephenville elders and apparently a less active who I used to teach was in the hospital and neede a blessing so it was really cool to see that family again. Love y'all! Elder Murdoch

The Blessing

The Blessing: I was on exchange with Elder Sims doing some studies in the church when we got a call from an 801. It was some frantic woman asking how close we were to the hospital. We were actually only 5 minutes from it and so she asked us to hurry there as fast as we could to give a blessing to her grandson. We got the parents number and hurried over. There was no one at the children's hospital when we first got there it was like the Walking Dead or a Call of Duty map according Elder Sims.  There were a few more people in the inside but it was very creepy. Children's hospitals are a very sad place with a happy façade if you think about what goes on in them.  We got to the BIcu or whatever a step above the Nicu is and aside from a sad looking nurse it was empty. We couldn't find the room and we had no service on our phone. Finally we found a door inaccessible from our side and we waited like 5 minutes for a nurse to walk out so we could quietly slip in. We wer...

Assistant Exchange

Image
Not too much happened this week. Most things went by without incident. We did have an exchange with the assistants and that was swell. we had a lesson with one of their people named Jose. Jose is the definition of humility he was super receptive to everything and thanks to the miracle of technology we were able to have the previous assistant who went home, Elder Sherrod (also my former Zone Leader), call in and teach with us. He hadn't told his mom or any of his family that he was meeting with us. He was super nervous about telling them and said he would think about baptism until his mom said it was ok. We followed Elder Bednars counsel and just asked a ton of questions and he started  bearing his testimony to us. Then Elder Balle asked him to pray about a date with us. He was super nervous but he knelt down anyway and said one. He felt very strongly about the 2nd Saturday in January. It was so cool to see the blessings that come from heeding the counsel of an Apostle. I know thu...

The Bednar Conference

Image
The Bednar Conference: Allow me to begin by recounting the best story Elder Bednar told:  Elder Bednar and our mission President, President Whitney are first cousins. And, while Elder Bednar was living in some major city in California as a boy he would get sent to the Whitney dairy farm in an attempt to keep him from being a pansy.  He told of one time in particular while they were teenagers and the found 2 pairs of boxing gloves. One thing led to another and soon they were engaged in a battle of the centuries and President Whitney landed a vicious punch to the new that sent Elder Bednar flying straight through a window.  If you've ever been sent through a window in a fight you know how nerve racking it is to wait for your parent (or in my case, a young men's leader) to come and realize what you've done and then yell at you. Apparently "Uncle Don" was someone that Elder Bednar did not want to face but when he came in from doing whatever dairy farmers d...
