The Wild Chicken Chase

Image
The Wild Chicken Chase: We've been knocking so much this week trying to find the lost sheep but the problem is, no one wants to answer to doors for us which is alright but it came to a point where maybe 1 out of 20 people were answering and 15 out of 20 were definitely home. It was getting ridiculous and I was bored. It got even more ridiculous after a lady started following us knocking on doors holding a kitten. I thought she was trying to return it or something and after we finished the street the lady still had about 5 doors left and no-one answered for her either. She was a bit older and had problems walking and so I felt really bad that she had to walk door to door and on one was answering because they thought she was us.  She came up to us after she had finished and told us it was hard following us. It turns out she wasn't holding a kitten but a chicken. She said it had just wandered into her house about 20 minutes ago and she didn't want her dog to ...

No Time

I have no time to write this week, so here are some out of context pictures:

Random Encounter: Cajun

Random Encounter: Cajun Well this is the best I have for this week. Elder Lancaster and I have been grinding rocking and knocking on a billion doors so it's natural that we find some pretty interesting people.  We were in one apartment complex and a Taiwanese lady and her baby opened the door. This was odd by itself because there aren't many non-hispanic/non-white people here in Stephenville. She didn't speak any English and of course the only Chinese sentence i can say is: 你的妈妈是一个大西瓜 (Your mother is a big watermelon) so we had to leave, she also told us she didn't want to talk anyway. As we were leavinf though i saw some white guy in sweatpants walking around inside which was a little interesting.  We finished knocking The building and started to move on to the next one but then we saw the same guy outside. He was in some classic edgy Hell's Angels biker gear with spikes and every thing. We called out to him and asked if we could give him a p...

The 'ol Family History Sneak Attack

Image
The ol' family history sneak attack: We had just shown up to this apartment complex we had been trying to knock out for the past week and were finishing up the last 25ish doors. The complex was 99% college students but as we started knocking I saw this older guy smoking outside his porch staring us down. He was a ways away from us and made no response when we waved at him. We decided to abandon knocking and go over and talk to him.  "Sir can I give you a card?" I we asked He drew a long breath from his cigarette exhaled and told us no and went off on how he knew the only real way back to God and told us we were wrong etc etc.  He was putting us down for a while and then with a final snort told us to leave.  "But sir," I said all slyly, "we only wanted to give you a card for family history." He accepted and talked about how his mom went to Salt Lake once to visit the genealogy library. Then he asked why our church did family history and before...

Bathroom Miracle

Image
Bathroom miracle: Here in Stephenville there's this place called Tarleton University and it is probably the scariset place I've been on my mission. Yes, I have tracted into drug deals and secret combinations and have even seem a man get murdered but by and large the scariest things out there are college students. Couldn't tell you why they are just really scary. We went for 30 minutes on my first day here and afterward I never wanted to set foot on a college campus again. The very next day though Elder Lancaster said we were going back. I would probably have done anything else than go back there so I prayed for the courage to be able to go back. We showed up on campus and I wanted to jump in the lake but right before we rushed into the main walkway Elder Lancaster had to see a man about a horse so we went to the one building on campus that he had been inside and that was the building where they hold institute on Wednesday night's. I had a weird fe...
