Shr3cked

Shr3cked:
On Friday afternoon we were in south Fort Worth and literally all of our appointments had cancelled on us for the next 3-4 hours. Not wanting to waste time in an all Swahili complex being unable to talk with anyone we decided to go to some complexes in west Fort Worth to see if there was any potential there. There was one street in particular we were looking for and as we got closer and closer things were starting to look promising, we even saw a woman who according to Elder Shiday "looked like she spoke Kunama(his native language)."
We kept driving and accidentally passed the complex we were planning on seeing. There was a "T" in the road so Elder Shiday told me to flip a U-turn. I was in the left lane and deviated from it a little in order to make the turn.
The next thing we saw was a car headed straight for my door and then the screeching of tires and then, nothing.
There were no screams, no cries of warning, no "Look out!" Not even an "aggressive driving" from TiWi. The only sound that came out of it was a small "oof" that I let out when my head smacked against the airbag.
I was fairly certain I had died. My ears were ringing and all I could see was light.
Was I really dead? Had my life just really ended? Of all the places to die, was mine behind the wheel of a Corolla? As lame as dying there sounds I was ok with it. I remained still for a few more seconds, I felt pretty comfortable, there were pillows and A/C. This was paradise? Certainly not what I expected but it was still very peaceful.
Then I heard a voice: not the voice of a human, it was too calm. Not the voice of deity, too annoying. Not even the voice of a demon, too feminine. It was indeed voice of our French GPS "si possible, fait un demi-tour."

I groaned "Well, there go my driving priveledges."
After accepting I was not dead I took a damage report. The car was beeping like a spaceship that was about to crash. The airbags on my side had all gone off, I couldn't open the door. The thought crossed my mind that I would have to Joey kick the windshield out and I got really excited. I looked at Elder Shiday and my dreams were crushed, his door opened just fine so much for being an action hero. He seemed a little shocked but I couldn't see any injuries.
The beeping persisted and the car sounded like it was going to explode and so my hands went for the keys but then I remembered it was 100 degrees outside, I was in a smokey car and I couldn't roll down my window let alone open my door. I mean yeah, if the car exploded that would be bad but then again, if I had to sit in a car with out A/C for more than 30 seconds that would also be bad. I weighed my options and after careful calculations I decided to take one for the team and turn off the car.
Elder Shiday opened his side and talked with the driver of the other car. As it would turn out neither of us had ever been in a wreck before so we were a little confused on what to do. She called the cops and we called our Zone Leaders who were equally clueless.
I turned the car back on and crawled it to the side of the road to avoid getting hit again.
Then some random dude showed up and started telling us what to do, he wasn't a cop or anything just a concerned citizen who had read the Book of Mormon all the way through in institute in College Station but never got baptized.
We got our insurance all taken care of and I just sat in the dirt just assuming the worst possible scenario for when the police show up. The cop showed up gave me a case number and before I knew it I was in the Zone Leaders truck getting carted off to the instacare to see if my noggin was still ticking in time.
We did a lot of waiting the rest of the night it took 2 hours to see a doctor at instacare, I was completely fine, no concussion, no whiplash. Elder Shiday has a superficial blood-clot in his leg(not life threatening just painful)  so after he was cleared by the Instacare doctors for concussion we had to take him to the ER, where the member we were supposed to have dinner with surprised us there, he just wanted to see if we were ok. Super cool.
In the end though, Elder Shiday was fine and the whole ordeal took only 6 1/2 hours.

The Zone Leaders just slept on out floor that night and the next day we got up for our baptism. Remarkably, I didn't even have seatbelt burns  and we defied the hurdle of Satan and added one more to the fold of God!

Je vous aime,
--Elder Murdoch
