Papa Jean and Elder Shiday betrays us
Papa Jean:
We have this investigator named "Papa Jean." He insists that he goes by this name and will not respond to "Jean" or his last name or any combination of them unless the prefix "Papa" is there. Eventually, we're going to have to break the news to him that his name is already a popular pizza chain and he'll have to change it due legal issues. Anyway, Papa Jean is really quite nice but he has just one problem: he has the insatiable urge to be baptized. He went to church the first time he went to church he came without us inviting him and left half-way through sacrament meeting. The he called us 4 days later and said that he "chose" our church. He allowed us to teach him the Restoration but that was it. He didnt let us come back but he still came to church. Then one day he said he would tell us in 3 weeks what day he wanted to be baptized. Then he dropped off the face of the earth for those 3 weeks. We He wouldn't answer calls or texts and he didn't come to church. Then he showed up to church 3 weeks later and left before we could talk to him. He let us in a few days later and told us we wanted to be baptized on Saturday (It was Thursday). We told him "how about in 2 Saturdays?" And he was cool with that. Then he only let us in one more time to teach half of the Plan of Salvation. The he just kept telling us he wanted to be baptized but he wouldn't let us in. We got to see him 3 times this week to finish the Plan of Salvation, The Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Word of Wisdom. We have his baptism scheduled for this coming Saturday and he still needs to be taught a lot and I'm not sure if he gets the whole "one true church thing" but we'll see. I have to finish teaching him this week with Elder Shiday and neither of us speak French nearly as good as Elder Alleman did.
Elder Shiday betrays us:
It was a warm summer night. The op was simple, go see a former investigator and share a scripture with him and get out. The time was 20h30 when we arrived on site. I'd been here before but I'd never been inside because the dad was never home. I thought that maybe because we were in a trio we could talk to the mom or the 18 year old daughter. We knocked and 4 or 5 of the daughters all answered at once looking very excited to see a certain member of our company who hails from their same continent. That certain member began to speak and then that was the last thing I remember. I woke up covered in sweat (normal) with a splitting headache, sitting on a leather couch holding a Book of Mormon. My vision was all blurry and people were speaking to me but I couldn't make out the words. Then my senses cleared up and I could hear Elder Alleman speaking to me, "Elder Murdoch, share a scripture..." his face was grim and pale I looked over at Elder Shiday and he was... preoccupied the sirens that had let us in had disabled him. Every time he spoke the girls laughed like he was Steve Carrell, Elder Shiday was supposed to be leading us and I had just assumed that an adult was home but Elder Alleman's expression indicated other wise. I later found out that the oldest daughter was in fact 18 but was not in the room with the other 5. The ghost of Elder Rowley appeared in the corner of the room like Obi Wan Kenobi and told me to remember my training. My instincts kicked in and I shared like 5 verses which was way too long but I couldn't think of a way to politely excuse us. I think I had started into the Restoration by the time I had regained control of myself. I threw the Book of Mormon at them, asked them to pray and at the conclusion of the prayer Elder Alleman threw the disabled Elder Shiday over his shoulder and the girls began to hiss, and I let then run out first as I threw pass along cards like ninja stars to keep them at bay until we could make it to the chopper. I barely made it out alive.
