Parked Car
Howdy y'all this week was pretty darn boring so I only have one slightly funny story this week.
Parked Car:
On Friday we had exchanges with the ZL's I stayed in Mexia with Elder Allred. I felt prompted to go to a former investigator that was dropped about a year ago. We knocked on the door and as usual someone quickly looked through the curtains and then pretended like they weren't home. After knocking twice I told Elder Allred we were going to tract the street. Every door we knocked on the same thing happened, people peeked through the window and pretended like they weren't home. Finally we got to a point on the street where Elder Rowley and I had already knocked all the doors there. For some reason though we kept walking even though we knew none of the houses ahead were interested.
We passed a house where we had been turned away. There was a old man sitting in his car parked on the lawn in front of the house. I recognized him as the very same man who had rejected us about a week ago.
As we walked past he started pounding on his window and yelling at us. We looked at him and knew immediately something was off. His face was red like he was overheating sweat was dripping off of him. He had a panicked look in his eye. This wasn't your garden variety someone mocking the missionaries, this guy was in trouble.
As soon as he knew he had our full attention he started pointing down at his door handle and motioning for us to open it. Elder Allred opened the door and the man stumbled out gasping for breath. When he had enough breath he started praising us, "Gracias, Gracias, Thank You!"
I was a little confused, why would the man who waved us away last week (he didn't recognize me) suddenly be praising me today?
We asked what the issue was and he told us thhold at 2 hours ago he was cleaning out his car when the door shut on him. He had tried to open it but something was wrong. The passenger door didn't work either and his car wouldn't start. He said he'd been trapped in there for 2 hours and that his wife wouldn't come home before 2 more hours had passed.
He said that nobody, not even the police officers that passed him paid any attention to him. He said right before we got there he said a prayer that someone would come and save him. When he said amen and looked up he saw us park our car and watched us knock all his neighbors doors.
This all goes back to when we kept walking toward his house even though he'd already rejected us. I can attest that the reason we kept walking was because the Holy Spirit prompted us forward so we could get this guy out of his car.
Once he finished thanking us he was open to hear the gospel, and said we could come back anytime as long as we had a Spanish translator.
Some people might call the whole ordeal coincidence but I call those people Philistines. I know that what happened was the result of Heavenly Fathers interference.
Love y'all,
--Elder Murdoch
