Tuba at 2 and Ugh, I go to Baylor
| Left to Right: Elder Bibeau, Elder Murdoch, Elder Rowley and Elder Parsons |
Nothing too exciting this week.
We had exchanges on Wednesday and I stayed in Mexia with our district leader Elder Parsons. It was fun because since he was outside of his area and Elder Rowley was in Hillsboro I was the designated driver for a few days. We had a few appointments but it was really just a standard day. Around 2 am I awoke to the sound of someone playing the tuba.
I sat up in bed, furious, who in oblivion is playing the tuba this early?
I stormed out of the room and prepared myself to go give our upstairs neighbor a piece of my mind. When I went to go get Elder Parsons I realized he was still asleep, I also realized that there was no tuba.
Elder Parsons just snores REALLY loudly.
I got back in bed, and probably just stared at the ceiling for an hour trying to sleep but the snoring was killing me.
You might be saying to yourself, "Will you big baby there was no way it was that loud." I get it, I know how this sounds but if I had to pick between Elder Parsons snoring and road construction I'd pick the latter.
Around 3 am, frustrated that I wasn't getting any sleep I took a sip of water from my water bottle. I barely made any sound but somehow that woke Elder Parsons up for a few seconds and for those few glorious seconds the snoring stopped. I then realized that I didn't have the patience to wait it out until morning and that I had to find a way to get Elder Parsons to wake up long enough for me to get back to sleep. So I started stomping around and making noise and eventually, Elder Parsons woke up and I managed to sleep for another 2 hours.
Ugh, I got to Baylor:
About a day after I went on exchanges with Elder Parsons our Zone Leaders called and said they wanted to go on exchange with us. Normally this doesn't happen but the ZL's needed to see why our area was doing better than our district leader's area. Elder Allred stayed with Elder Rowley in Mexia and I got to go to Waco with Elder Stokes.
We got to Waco around 8:30 Thursday night and the next day we went to work. We got to street contact (something you can't do in Mexia) around the Baylor campus which was pretty fun because most of the students like to talk to us.
Every once in a while though a student would get really snobby with us and all they would say is "I go to Baylor" stick their nose in the air and strut away. Elder Stokes says that happens at least once a day.
But, we said "hi" to one student that had ear buds in and I personally thought he'd just be rude to us. Like a minute later though he came running after us yelling for us to stop. He told us his name and that he was a member but hadn't been to church since he started attending Baylor but that we reminded him to start going again. We gave him the YSA branch info and he said he would be there on Sunday.
As we walked away Elder Stokes was well... stoked. He said that they had a list of less actives and that they'd been looking for that guy for almost 2 months with nothing to go off of except he was a Baylor student. It goes to show miracles really do happen if you're willing to show The Lord you're willing to work.
That's about it for this week, sorry if it wasn't as exciting as you were hoping but that's missionary work for you.
Love y'all,
