Into The Fire

It's been a very long week! And a lot has happened! My area is Mexia Texas (pronounced Meh-Hay-Ah) the people here are very... rural.

There's a very small branch here and the active members are all really nice! There are a lot of people around here though who get baptized and then return to the Southern Baptist church, they say they're confident that our Church is wrong and yet, they don't want their records removed so maybe they aren't THAT confident.

People here are so nice and that was really great at first but it's turned more into a blessing than a curse. Everyone says their interested in what we have to say listens to us and says they'll read the Book of Mormon and meet with us later, but they don't mean a word of it. They're just too nice to say no!

One investigator we met was named Raoul, and he was nice but he liked to talk a lot. We tried to teach him a lesson but he wouldn't let us say much he kept talking about his job as a Deputy and how dangerous it can be out in the countryside and how he never gets a real work schedule so we just have to be lucky if we want to visit with him. He let me wear his handcuffs too!

Our area us really big and so we get a car but with limited miles and we have to use most if those miles to drive all the way out to Waco for zone conference in a few weeks. So we're going to be doing a lot of biking because the nearest town in our area is 13 miles away and the houses of people we have dinner appointments with are abou 30 miles away.

You may be thinking: how is this even worth it? He doesn't even have any solid investigators. We didn't that's true. Until we met Maurice. He's an older man who was raised Baptist but recently due to a recent tragedy he started thinking: If there's only one Bible and all the churches interpret it differently, then which church is true?" He says he's studied the Bible for a long time and believes there is only one true church, he just isn't sure which one is right. And boy did we have a similar story about a boy named Joseph Smith that he really liked.

Like I said, it's been a long week and a lot happened and so this is just the bare bones of it I'd love to tell more but I don't have the time!

love y'all,
Elder Murdoch
